Hi,
My name is Jaime, from Brazil, please forgive me my english:
I Install InCD DVD/RW &CD-RW - UDF PACKET WRITING SOFTWARE, V 3.51.91 with a SAMSUNG RW 52-24-52, and I receive a following message when I try drop and drag, files like ZIP FILES and DOC files:
"It is not possible to create or substitute XXXX file; Invalid function on MS-DOS"
For a certain time, all the files were copied by drag and drop, or send to, or copy and paste. But now, InCD don't work. My OS, is MS WINDOWS® 98 SE.
Help me, please.
Thanks for all
Jaime

Welcome to CDRLabs, Jjaime!

Your error message looks really strange, since it mentions MS-DOS, which shouldn't be involved in drag & drop operations. Could you tell us more precisely how you perform these operations: via "Send to..." or by dropping files on your burner drive in Windows Explorer? And is this message exact, or a translation?

Further, have you changed anything in software or hardware since the time when InCD was working correctly?

Stay away from InCD 4.0.1.0 until it's debugged, but it won't hurt to upgrade to InCD 3.52.40; just download the executable

ftp://ftp.nero.com/InCD35240.exe

ftp://ftp3.nero.com/InCD35240.exe

and run it.

You should take a look at the InCD troubleshooting guide:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9597

and come back with more information about your system, as indicated in S17 of the InCD guide.

THANKS !

Thank you for trying to help me ! All the ways that you mentioned, and that are possible copying files in Windows® 98 SE, I used with InCD.
This message is a translation, because my OS is in portuguese, But the ERROR is this. The system tell this error in all kind of operations to send a file to the CD RW(copy and paste, drop and drag, send to (by menu file, properties)).
I neve made any change. My drive is new (12/06/2003), and I install a NERO CD software tha comes within the box.
Oh man ! is too late ! I downloaded the newer version...and already met all the bugs. . . I will remove the software and reinstall the version that came in the CD like you said. Whats the basic difference between MRW and UDF system ? I will read your guide, as soon as possible, and return with informationa, but the firmware of my burn, I don't now where I get.
REGARDS from BRAZIL,
Jjaime

Please list your error message in Portuguese; maybe other forum members (The Wizard?) could help in translating it into English.

Since your error message mentions MS-DOS, I wonder if MS-DOS drivers for CD-ROM devices are involved. Check if your C:\Config.sys file has anything like "device=...\cdromdrv.sys /d:MSCD001", and take a look at your Autoexec.bat; normally these two files are quite short for Win98SE, but maybe they reference spurious drivers in your case.

I gather that, since your burner is new, you haven't installed other burning software except for Nero and InCD (and possibly Adaptec's burning plugin for WMP if you have WMP 7.x or 9.0; if yes, tell us).

I also guess that you upgraded to InCD 4.0.1.0 before reading my advice. You should definitely uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs. Instead of reverting to InCD 3.51.91 that came with your burner, you may install InCD 3.52.40 as indicated in my previous message.

You may learn about MRW and UDF 1.50 by calling InCD's help.

I don't know if your Samsung burner supports MRW; you should tell us which model you have, e.g., SW-252. Nero InfoTool will inform you about the burner, its firware version and CD-MRW (Mt. Rainier) support. If you don't see Nero InfoTool in Start | Programs | Ahead Nero | Nero Toolkit, your version of Nero Burning ROM must be old, in which case you should either upgrade Nero to the latest version from www.ahead.de or download Nero InfoTool from www.cdspeed2000.com (which has the latest v2.0).

Posting the Nero InfoTool report is OK; however, you should have also responded to my other querries.

1. Did you get the same error message while copying files for InCD 4.0.1.0?

2. Please post your C:\Config.sys and C:\Autoexec.bat files; I'd like to check if MS-DOS drivers for CD-ROM devices are involved.

3. Uninstall InCD 4.0.1.0 via Add/Remove Programs; then download InCD35240.exe and run it. Tell us if you see any error messages.

4. Your Samsung SW-252B supports MRW (Mt. Rainier). Thus you may test both MRW and non-MRW (UDF 1.50) discs. For discs formatted with other versions of InCD, first do full-erase in Nero | Recorder | EraseReWritable. While describing your experiments, tell us whether MRW or non-MRW discs are used.

In your C:\Windows\System\IOSUBSYS directory, you may change the extension .vxd to .vx_ for the following drivers:

5. Drvwcdb.vxd - unless you have a parallel port scanner which needs this driver.

6. Drvwppqt.vxd and Drvwq117.vxd
These drivers are used by different versions of Backup software, so instead of renaming them, it's better to remove such software. For instance, you may uninstall MS Backup via Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup | System Tools; whereas for Seagate/Conner Backup see

http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/tape/uninstal.html

7. Iomega.vxd - unless you have an Iomega tape or ZIP drive.

Don't forget to tell us which drivers you decided to rename.

The answers
1 - Yes
2 - AUTOEXEC.BAT
C:\VIAUDIO\VIAUDIO.COM
REM SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6
REM SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=850
keyb br,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\keyboard.sys
CONFIG.SYS
device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=055,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
3- OK! I made this, even the moment it seems to be working fine! No errors message at time.
4 - I Think that UDF 1.50 format is better than Rainier, for me...
5 - I don't have a scanner. (I understand?). No zip drive too.
I'm using MAXELL and SONY CD-RW 650 MB. I Think, that now with InCD 35240, I'm using a non-MRW discs.
Thank you, for being helping me.
Jjaime, from Brazil.

Glad to hear about your progress, Jjaime! 8)

Your Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files look OK.

If InCD 3.52.40 keeps running fine, then you don't need to do anything more. You may test MRW discs later (I'm using both MRW and non-MRW).

In contrast with Roxio's usual culprits, the drivers Drvwcdb.vxd, Drvwppqt.vxd, Drvwq117.vxd and Iomega.vxd cause problems for relatively few users only. Hence renaming them is not mandatory; you may do it if problems arise.
