The LiteOn 52246S that I recently installed will not burn for me. I took the machine out and gave it to a friend of mine and it worked for him. I placed back in my machine, but it still doesn't burn. It reads, but it won't write.

I changed cables. Here is a copy of the log:

huh?,

Being a newbie you may not be aware that Please, Can Someone Help Me? Thank You is an inappropriate topic. It gives no useful information and may be ignored by some since this is a giveaway that the poster is inexperienced and may not be computer literate. A better topic would be LiteOn 52246S Fails to Burn with Nero. Then all of the users of LiteOns and/or Nero would see this and maybe even help. :)

More information, such as what type of files you are burning and whether you have tried different media would have been helpful.

Here are a few tips to try to see if it allows a successful burn:

Make sure that DMA is enabled for the CD-ROM and burner. See How to enable DMA in Windows XP (with pictures).

Your settings indicate that you are using Track-at-once and finalizing the disc. There is no point in using Track-at-once in a finalized data burn unless it is a multisession project. Your setting for a normal finalized disc burn should always be Disk-at-once. Change to DAO in the settings.

An "invalid write state" can be caused by media incompatibility or burning too fast. Although Taiyo Yuden media is normally good, a failure to burn can be caused by bad or incompatible media. In this case, changing to a different high quality media type will fix the problem. If your TY media is old, it may not burn reliably at 24X. Try a lower speed and see if it makes a difference.

It shouldn't cause a burn failure when Smartburn is activated, but it's always a good practice to burn from a hard drive that has been recently defragmented.
