Dear all,
Hi there.I have a LG GCE-8240B CD-Recorder.It is 13 months old and out of warranty now.The drive is with firmware 1.07.Now whenever I try burning a CD I get tarck following error on any media that I use.The writer just writes TOC or Lean In and then gives error saying "Track following error".I tried using Roxio,Nero and CloneCD all latest versions.I used 5 different media like Mitsui,Moser Baer India,Princo,MM&M and last a Mitsubishi HS CD-RW media.
Will upgrading the firmware to 1.08 solve my problem?
Waiting for some fast and helpful posts,
Thanks in advance,

You tried basic stuff like doing a cold reboot, yes?
Does the drive still read CD's? All different kinds?

Yes.I tried restarting and then cold booted the system without any effects.
I think there is problem with the writer.I am now downloading firmware 1.08 and then will try flashing it using a Windows ME bootable diskette.
Yes th drive still reads and erases the CD's without any problems.
Waiting....

A hot humid climate might put greater stress on the drive optics. Atmospheric contaminants may also have contributed to the problem.
"Track following error" is usually a media problem, but if all good quality media return this error I would try cleaning the drive as a last resort. Sometimes cleaning the drive will allow the laser and/or moving parts to return to normal function, restoring useful operation to a malfunctioning drive.

I would always try flashing first before going to a "last resort" mode. Frankly though, I doubt that flashing will fix the problem. Flashing usually makes minor performance or media compatibility improvements for burners, but does nothing for malfunctions causing a loss of normal operation. Nevertheless, it's worth a try.

Flashing the firmware couldn't hurt...unless you do it wrong.

Dear all,
sorry for long diaspperance. But the good news is that I changed the IDE cable and flashed the firmware to 1.08,then the writer started writing the disks again.I have as far burned about 12 disks without any problem. But I dont know why,I am having a gut feeling that the writer still has problem.
But I wont buy a new one until this dies on me.
Anyways thanks a lot for the help.
See ya later,
