Cd reading problems...

Hi!

I am backing up some of my dvd movies by converting them into divx files and I have problems. The writing seems to be ok but and cd speed shows no errors but when the movies are reproduced with any divx player the video seems to pause and the cd rom is really noisy like its too hard to read the cd. This is happening with specific divx files. I did try to burn them with disc at once option, track at once, mode 1 and 2 I did try Nero 5.5 and Easy cd creator 5 but nothing. Also both my Plextor 40x and Yamaha 8x do they same thing.

Do you know why is that happening?

PS: I am using 48x Plextor and Verbatim media, under windows XP SP1.

thanks

Do all DivX files have this problem playing from a CD?

Do the problematic DivX files play right from the HDD?

What media are you using?

Not all of them... they are specific files and those files do the same thing as many times I try to write them with any option.

I am using Plextor 48x (TY) media and verbatim datalife plus 48x

EDIT:

They do play ok from the hdd...

After 3-5 secs the pauses stop but the cd roms they are still very noisy ( I have tried many cd roms/Dvd roms and they all do the same)

Weird... Maybe you could try re-encoding the troublesome files.

I do not think that its the divx files... With the previous Asus 161040 I had no problems at all. This thing started when I got my Plextor 40x writer and I am using the same program in order to make the divx files.

Do you still have your old ASUS 16x10x40x drive to test?

Also, I think that it's the DivX files because you state that it's always the same DivX files that cause the problem, and you state that you have tried two different drives and two different types of media.

BTW, I am assuming that both of those drives are CD-RW drives that you used to burn the discs. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Yes they are both cdrw drives.
The first problem appeared with the Plextor drive where I copied the file from the disk. Then I tried to copy the file with my old cdrw (and other cdrw as Plextor 48x) from the problematic cd and there was still the same problem. If I had the original files (before copying them to disks) I believe that my old Yamaha (and Asus 16x) wouldnt have any problem. I believe that something happened to to the file when it was copied. This problem appeared with several files but unfortunately I did delete all the originals.

Do the files that won't work on the CD work right if they're copied to the hard drive from the CD? Also, will they work right from the CD on another computer?

When they are copied to the hdd they is no problem but in all the cd/dvd roms that I have tried it seems to be difficult to read them

I really do not understand whats going on!

One more question; are there some DivX files that you have burned with your Plextor or your Yamaha that do work in other CD or DVD drives?

Also, I would appreciate it if you could re-encode one of the troublesome files anyway, just to see if that helps.

What program are you using the encode the files? Which version of DivX are they compressed with: 3, 4, or 5? What media player are you using to playback the videos?

I am using Gordian Knot 0.27 and divx 5.02 Pro (2-pass). This is happening with all divx player and media player 9

Hmm, never heard of Gordian Knot before. At any rate, just to check all possibilities, you do have all the proper codecs installed, yes? If the videos play then that is an indication everything is fine with video codecs, but if audio does not work then there is an audio codec or two missing. I've never heard of video or audio becoming choppy with the proper codecs installed, or not installed, for that matter. If the proper codecs are not installed, nothing will be seen or heard. As I'm not familiar with Gordian Knot, I have no idea what further compression/conversion utilities it uses to make movies.

have you tried reading the CD using the scandisk feature of Nero CD speed? it sounds like you might be burning too fast and your drives are having to re-read parts of the disc upon playback.

when I am using cd speed the cd seems to be fine.... There are no errors and the speed is quite good but when I am using any divx player the problem appears...
