hi, guys
Could you tell me how to burn 790MB CDs
with Nero? I'm asking because I failed to burn
2 of them ;(

Here is what I have done:
May be I make a mistake somewhere....

1. Enable overburn and put the max cd lenght to 89:59:74
I tested the second cd with 90:0:0 but there wasn't any result

2. I burned them on 16x @ disk-at-once

Note that the burn process starts normal/with the overburn warning/
and has failed somewhere between the 20th and 30th second/on the both cds/
the files were total 769MB

O.S.=> Windows XP Pro
CDRW drive=> LG 52x/24x/52x
Nero => 5.5.10.7

P.S. In medium info window/before any operation with the cds/
nero displays that these cds are 703MB!

Try burning at 4x. Some drives do not support overburn at speeds faster than 4x or 8x.

Update Nero. Current version is 5.5.10.42

Does the drive support 800MB CDs?

Are you overburning a 700MB CD? Many don't like or won't like it when you try it.

Might have to drop down the overburn options.

According to Ian's review, it says that the drive recognizes 99 min. disks properly but will not read past the 92 min. mark.

The review did not mention anything about writing to 90 or 99 min. CD-R's.

Look closer. It's in another section.

The drive should be able to write up to 99 minutes but as aviationwiz pointed out, it only reads up to 92.

Cannot do that the PC is in a Internet club
In my country we don't have broadband I'net in the houses

Your Nero version is fine, and you burn speed is fine. What kind of media are you using. There are VERY few manufacturers of 90min media, and only 1 or 2 that have gotten it right!

Can you tell us who the manufacturer is? if it isn't Ritek or Prodisc, then you don't have much of a chance of producing workable media

You think 16x is good? The highest I dared go on my LTR-48125W was 8x.

The media is Multidisc => the producer is Eximpo Media.
you probably have never heard it before. It's a czech producer.

The other media which I bearned from this producer
/about 200CDs/-700MB was O.K. => only 1 CD was unreadable

Aviationwiz: According to my tests, Ritek 90min and 99min media performs best at 12x and 16x, and declines in quality at 8x and VERY much so at 4x.

CMC 90min CD-Rs peform best at 4x, and are completely useless at ANY other speed

CMC 99min CD-Rs perform best at 12x, and get REALLY bad if burned at other speeds... 8x is almost ok though.

I haven't done extensive testing on Prodisc 90+min media unfortunatly, but when I still had access to it I burned it fairly well at 12x.

BBB: Can you post the ATIP of the media please? Lot's of places claim to make their own media, but simply out source for it.

Intresting, I was using Sky Branded Ritek Media. Well, I won't be using those anymore, because of GigaRec.

I think the problem is in the LG
cause on my own LiteOn 48/12/48 I haven't any
problem to burn a 790MB cd @ 16x !!!the lG burned it@4x
Also the LG failed to burn a BenQ 32x certified
media/It didn't manage to detect what's the best speed
and I selected 32x, the second cd was burned successfully but @ 24x /,on other
side the LiteOn's drive hasn't any problems
it detected the max speed 32x and burned it successfully@ 32x
/with small overburn 707MB-the media is 700MB/

P.S. Why some drives overburns on 4x or 8x?

Well, your media looks like it was manufactured by a third tier factory, probably using a DST or similar stamper. This unfortunatly does not say anything to us about the quality of the media, since there are a number of quite good third tier factories that put out quality media, and some that even rival T.Y. !!! so the media may be good or bad Use CD Doctor or K-Probe to check it out (since you have a LiteON).

I agree that it does sound like your LG drive is in trouble!

Please note that the liteon burned 2cds with no problem,but the lG
burned 1 and failed 2

P.S. Could you tell me/or give me a link/ what are all of these:
in kprobe=> MSF;LBA; and what are C1& c2 errors.
and what's the normal amount of errors?

And c2? I have 1 cd with 2 c2 errors,/is it dangerous/ but it runs normal

Also how Kprobe determine who is the manufacturer of the CD,
if there is no info in the ATIP

I suggest looking at the K-Probe discussion topic for more answers on K-Probe. It is sticky so it should be easy to find (in the CD-R/W section)

Your discs look fine by the way. Generally the lower the amount of C1/C2 errors the better. You don't want ANY C2 errors, although *2* errors will not cause a problem, it does mean that the disc will degrade faster then discs that start off with 0. You will never burn a disc with 0 C1 errors, so don't worry about that. Usually you want to keep the average of C1 errors around 2 or lower. Personally, I've been known to accept CD-Rs with C1 averages as high as 5 as long as they don't have any large spikes of errors in them.
