Hello,
I plan to replace my good old Plextor 24/10/40 by a new CD-Burner. I can't backup my recent games like Unreal Tournament 2003 or Praetorians protected by the new securom. What burner should I buy to be able to backup all my original games even the new ones protected with new protections ? An A-Open/Philips/Lite-On/ASUS/Plextor burner (Here are those my local shop has) ?

Your best bet is to get a drive using a MediaTek chipset like some of the ASUS and Lite-On drives.

You didn't say what Plextor your shop has, but the Premium also works well in this capacity with the latest firmware.

The Plextor Premium is also available but it's very expensive and I don't really need his extra features. I think I'll go for the Lite-ON.

The Plextor Premium is the only drive currently that can back up securom 4.8x, no other drive has managed this. Whether this justifies the price difference is up to you

There is unfortunately a huge price difference. Could a firmware update make the LiteOn compatible with secu 4.8x too ?

Unfortunatly, I highly doubt it. However using Alcohol 120%'s emulation can help significantly. Or you can always fall back on the fixed executable routine
