Which drive to buy Plextor, Lite-On or TDK?

I've read nothing but great reviews on the Plextor Premium and the Lite-On LTR-52327S. I have a 24X TDK Velo drive now and want to upgrade. I can't find any reliable reviews on the TDK 48X or 52X, I heard the DAE on the TDK 48X is good.

Main uses:

Burning CD images
DAE must be good

Any comments would be helpfull

What? You mustn't have checked the review section of our website. :o

That's because you don't really need to. TDK doesn't make their own drives. Currently TDK is using Lite-On. Read a review for the equivalent Lite-On drive, and you'll automatically know how the rebadged TDK drive performs.

If software is an issue, you get the preferred Ahead Nero bundled with the LiteOn.

Which TDK drive do you have? Despite the fact that many TDK drives are made by Lite-On, some are made by other vendors.

I would suggest buying the LTR-52327S. In fact, I just bought one, but it's on backorder right now. :(

2nd day in a row that I've received and e-mail from Best Buy saying that mine is on back order and will be shipped in 23 days.

Maybe they have it on a treadmill - it's moving but going nowhere.

I never got an e-mail stating when they expected to ship the drive, but I did get an e-mail stating that the cd-labeler kit shipped and the drive did not.

I have a TDK CDRW4800B. Hope that helps. What I'm really trying to accomplish is firmware upgrades, and I don't know where to start with this particular drive.

I'd get the Plextor Premium, it costs quite a bit more, but if you are going to burn a lot of cd's, and want the extra quality and features, get it. Otherwise if you are just looking for a cheap drive, the LTR-52327S will do.

i would opt for the plextor, but if burning "back-up" only is your thing, the liteon is fine, but the write quality will be better on the plextor

from my experiance, both drives write performance are excellent but the plextor is a more consistant quality burner

I think your drive may be an LTR-48246S. You might find this thread informative.
