Stereo CD Malfunction

Not sure if this is an appropriate forum for this device, but here goes anyway:

For my bookshelf stereo system (an AIWA), I purchased a Maxell CD Lens Cleaner (w/ brush.)

I ran it in the machine for the appropriate period of time.

Now, some of my CD's don't work, in that the display never shows the total track length...hence they won’t play.

What happened?

Thanks in advance,

I would guess that the cleaning disc damaged the pickup head/lens assembly in your drive. I don't generally recommend using these CD cleaners, because of just such a possibility. The spinning brush whacking against the pickup head could knock it out of alignment, scratch the lens or, if you are lucky, just manage to collect dust and deposit on the lens.

At this point your best bet would be to get in there and manually inspect/clean the lens if possible. Here are some guides for cleaning computer CD-RW drives. They aren't directly applicable, but may give you some helpful hints:

Thanks man.

It's a bookshelf system . . . but I'll take the back off; & try.

Thanks again,
