I have some Imation 40x speed CD-Rs . I owned a Lite-On LTR-52327S . When I checked the max burning speed I can get using the CD-Rs , I got 52x max burning speed . Is it okay for me to burn the CDs using 52x speed when in fact the CDs labeled as 40x ? Will it harm my drive or the CD-Rs themself ?

It's very likely that those 40x discs are the same ones they now rate at 48x. I've had good luck with Imation discs at 52x. It's worth a try.

My guess is that it will work perfectly fine. Imation CD-Rs are made by CMC, and I have some old 40x SpinX CD-Rs (made by CMC) that burn fine in my 52327S at 52x. The quality isn't great with firmware QS08, but it is fine (C1 Max=26, C1 Average=1.773, no C2) with firmware QS09.

At the very end of the burn (if I burn a completely full disc), Smart-Burn forces the drive to slow down a bit, but based on my KProbe scans, this doesn't affect the burn quality much if at all. :D Then again, the only discs I've burned at 52x where this doesn't happen are my TDK 40x discs (which are made by Ritek).
