Maxell CD-R 80XL-S RiTEK iso Taiyo Yuden

Hi, I bought a 10-pack Maxell CD-R 80XL-S's because Instant Info listed them to be Taiyo Yuden discs. Unfortunately SmartBurn 3.1.1 identifies them as RiTEK:

Drive Type = CD-RW
Disc Type = CDR (A-)
Material = Phthalocyanine
Lead In = 97:15:17
Lead Out = 79:59:70
Nominal Capacity = 702.82MB (79m 59s 70f/LBA:359845)
Manufacturer Maybe = RiTEK
Smart-Burn Speed Limit = Wrt(52X),Rd(12X)

However, they have exactly the same EAN (4902580449674) as listed on InstantInfo. So brand's don't change the EAN, when they switch manufacturers?

BTW. I reported the difference to InstantInfo

Thank you for your time,
XIII

Instant info are never a 100% right..
Nothing we can do about it (beside reporting their errors as you did).

I'm sure the Riteks aren't that bad.

I'd be happy to hear back from you about your experience with them (maybe even a Kprobe scan).

Here's the scan:

This seems reasonable except for the C2 errors. Furthermore the ScanDisc test of Nero CD-Speed returned one "unreadable" error when burned at 52x (altough the Nero data verification completed succesfully). Therefore, I cannot submit an entry to the media topic (yet).

It isn't showing for me either. In fact, if I paste the link into the adress space, it takes me back to this post. It's also too small to be an image (322 Bytes). As an aside: PNG's are smaller and better than JPGs for showing KProbe results.

Incidentally, I shared your discovery. See this post: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=71298#71298.

I'm actually quite happy with the quality of most RiTEKs I've tried.

I've heard of the Maxell 80XL-S being mainly Hitachi Maxell, but when Maxell can't make enough of their own, they get Ritek to fill in the blanks. I've NEVER heard of Maxell 80XL-S being made by Taiyo Yuden though, only the Maxell Pro's

Image problem?

Sorry, but they do come up when I view this topic (even after forcing a refresh of the webpage), so I have no idea what might be wrong...

This is a bit mysterious- I had a look at your post from work today and the image didn't show either. Pasting the link into the address bar worked this time though.

XIII- if I recall correctly, you're based in the Netherlands, so another possiblity is ruled out. A while ago, we had a case here where all non-Americans accessing a page were redirected to an advertising site! I'm in Germany, Harrier is in Israel, so that was one thing I thought of.

Check. However, I don't think my free webspace provider is located (t)here.
