Which CD's to buy for Lite-on 52x32x52

Hi, I just bought a lite-on 52x32x52 at newegg.com today for like $39.00. I bought it based on the good reviews found here on the forum for liteons. I was wondering what cd's were generally known for their quality and which cd's I should stay away from? From reading a few posts it seems Fuji (TY) are a good choice. Can anyone recommend a few other quality brands for Lite-on? Thank you.

For Lite-On, the only great media out there is Taiyo Yuden, and unfortunetly, Fuji is starting to switch over to Taiwanese manufactures such as CMC and Prodisc.

I get the following speeds with QS09 and QS0A firmware:

Fuji TY 48x-->40x burns
Verbatim Datalife plus 48x-->40x burns
TDK 52x Ritek-->52 burns

Have not tried any other media yet.
I have heard other users getting 52x burns with both Fuji 48x TY and Verbatim Datalife plus 48x CDRs. :(

I'm getting 52x with the Fuji TY 48x discs that I bought last week. The writing quality is astoundingly good, too! :D

How bout the Imation discs? Are they pretty good in general? From reading some of the posts, it seems they can be pretty good but tend to be inconsistent.

Imation sucks. They are made by CMC.

EDIT: Deleted uncalled for comment.

That LTR-52327S must really suck if your only getting 40x on 48x Fuji TY and Verbatim MCC media. Even my Plex gets full 52x on MCC media, and 40x on Fuji TY media.

aviationwiz, chill with the this sucks, that sucks. You are not helping. If anything, it shows your age.

Imation's are some of the better CMC manufactured discs out there. For day to day use, you can't go wrong unless you can find some TY's for the same price.

Check our review of the LTR-52327S. I tested the drive with a bunch of media. Most of which worked fine at 52x.

It must not like my Gigabyte GA-GKNXP motherboard.
:(
Luckily I still have the LTR-52246S. I am able to get 52x burns using Fuji 48x and Verbatim 48x media.

Age doesn't mean anything. I am simply stating, perhaps not in the right manner, but I am simply stating, that I think Imation sucks. They are CMC manufactured, which is bad in itself, but I have also had a 20 pack, in which two disks have worked. I get errors on burns all the time, when I used them. My friend even had a 50 pack and said about 5 of them worked, on par with my expirience with them.

CMC based disks are just fine, there just not the media of choice with litey drives, deffently try TY, at least with my 48x12x48x, i found that they were the best

I've tested quite a few CDR's on the 52327S, the winners were Mitsubishi 48x (Verbatim DLP) and RiTEK TG 48x. Both will burn at 52x with very good quality. A lot depends on which firmware you use. QS0A has made big improvements for TY and it now burns slightly better than the first 2. QS09 is the best firmware thus far for RW media, QS0A is bad for RW media. For all-around good quality stay with QS09, but it will cause some media (like TY) to slow the burn speed near the end of the burn. QS06 does not do this. Your drive may vary in how it responds to media and firmwares. You've probably got the best drive ever made for flat-out fast burning on a wide range of media, but it will also limit the speeds on some media (which is usually a good thing).

I've had good experiences with Imation (CMC) media, but Fuji (TY) is certainly better!

I like to use TY and Ritek on both my Plextor Premium and my LiteON, although the LiteON tends to like Ritek a lot more then the Premium does!

Benq is nice too..

Nasty spike in between, but nice burn overall. Burned and tested @ 52X in my 52327S.

Ian used firmware QS04 for his review. Looks like this firmware allowed 52x burns on all the media that he used.

Anyone used this firmware and can post good/bad experiences?

Anyone knows where I can get a hold of this firmware so that I can try it out?

QS04 will produce lower quality burns on most media than QS09.

I agree. The quality with QS04 was pretty good, but the QS09 is even better. That's what I'm using right now.

I have used hundreds of CMC made Imation discs (in addition to other brands of course), and they almost never produce coasters, no matter which burner I have used (various Philips drives, various LiteOn drives).

I read so many comments in forums (even from a few veterans that know a lot about CD-RW technology) all over the net saying this burner sucks or this media sucks.
I have yet to find a brand of writer that has issues, and have had luck with all my media choices except 1 brand out of about 15.
Maybe I am just very lucky :)

"Not pruducing coaster" is not really a measure of success for a drive or media. That's why we have C1/C2 checking utilities. Many people are finding that those discs that were once not coasters are now coasters. There's a whole range of quality (or lack of it) before you get to "coaster".

VEFF: You have definitely been "lucky", as you put it! I haven't run across any drives or discs that were truly terrible, but I've definitely seen (and owned) some drives that had pretty poor write quality with certain types of media or produced many coasters.

Even a good initial burn with no C2 errors and low C1 errors does not necessarily mean the disc is of good quality. Veff, take a look at my experience with Imation branded CMC discs:

currently im using datasafe black bottom cdr's , they are not speed labelled but with smartburn on it detects as 16x, with it off I can write them sucessfully at 52x with 708MB overburn.

I also found that on thes ecdrs with qs09 firmware burning a 702MB cdr (above ones) took 2 mins 37 sec in nero 6.0.0.11 whilst burning the same cdr with same data but at 48x took 2 min 38 secs, now is it me or is this a little odd! - I would rather use 48x for a cleaner burn than shave off 1 second at 52x :P but do those times seem good?

Have you checked any of these in KProbe, WSES, or CD Doctor to see how high the C1 or C2 error levels are?

The burner might be dropping the speed at the end of the burn when you are burning at 52x. I have seen this happen with mine, particularly on older media.

The 52327S drive is very sneaky, it'll downshift without telling you. (no yellow light). I seriously doubt that it would complete a burn at 52x on that media. Since it usually downshifts to a 40x CAV mode, the time differences are small. I too would like to see an error scan on that disc.
