What is the optimal speed for recording audio with Plextor Premium
using hq highspeed media (e.g. TY)?

I like to burn audio with any cd burner (including the Premium) at 32x speed or below.

but I've heared every drive is optimized just for one speed.
Is that right?
I tried to burn audio with Premium @ x52 and this sounded very harsh.
The quality of sound was very low.
x4 gave the least C1 errors and the BLER was perfect,
but x4 burn with x52 media seems not quite right, doesn't it?

Audio always should be burned at at least a couple speeds lower than the maximum speed. See how it works at 16x or 24x, it sound well, and it is still a fairly fast burn (5 min.) instead of 20 min. at 4x.

The problem is I don't own an audiophile cd player at home,
so I can't make the best choice by ear.
I hoped to get some "golden x" number and make sure
my demo cds sound as good as possible.
But it seems I need some audiophile gear after all

what program you using to test audio cds is there like a program that runs through the entire cd and tells you the quality?

I use PlexTools Professional, it has all testing tools.
I see you've got Premium, so PlexTools Professional should be
on one of your Plextor CDs.

Plextools Professional with the Premium drive lets you do C1/C2/Cu tests with the Q-Check feature:

As far as I know the regular Plextools doesn't have any CD-R quality tests. Use Nero CD-Speed's Scan Disc and/or CD Quality tests if you have a Plextor but not the Premium.

It also depends on where you will be playing them.
My car audio system has a harder time with some CD-Rs than my
110+1 home CD changer and portable players which never skip.

To be safe, a slower speed is recommended, so it can be played on all players without possible skipping issues.

You should also try using some media that has deep green (I can't find any of these now) or blue-greenish color (Princo or Lead Data).
I always get better results using this media when recording audio comparing to the Riteks or the Prodiscs (here in Europe we don't have TY). All my audio players read it more easily and the skipping rarely happens (I can say never).
I record with 12x when I'm using Princo or Lead Data disks (I think that these two are the same at least for the physical aspects of the media, can't say for sure that they are completely identical). I once used TDK d-view (made by TDK-Europe) for audio and that was good recording too, but I stick to the previous two for this kind of recording (I use Ritek or Prodisc for data). Btw, I have Teac cd-w552e.
