Burning issues problem

I really dont know how to figure this out, but here's my problem. Ok when ever I do a burn or copy using my Liteon 48246S and also Nero 5.5.10.50, what I normally do is tell Nero to save data to the HDD first, i.e create a mirror copy first (not using fast copy on the fly) therefore allowing a better burn or copy.

Ok normally when this image or data is copied to the drive it should by rights write or go to my internal HDD first, before being transferred to the burner, i.e the drive. For eg, cd-rom will write to HDD first, then HDD will transfer directly to burner.

But when the data is being writen to the HDD, it actually gets transferred to my USB external HDD instead of my internal one, therefore allowing the burn to get slowed down. By rights it should actually go to my internal HDD,but does not seem to do so.

Is there a box or anything in Nero I need to tick or configure.

In the burn dialog ("New Compilation") that pops up when you select "File"->"CD Copy", click the "Image" tab and set the "Image file" to be on your main hard drive. This will take care of the copying issue.

To take care of the issue when burning a compilation of files from your hard drive or dragged from a CD, go to "File"->"Preferences", select the "Cache" tab, and set the "Path for cache" to be on your main hard drive.

Hi Cfitz, thanks for your reply. Ok now accroding to my settings like you mentioned in your reply.

In the burn dialog box, under the Image Tab I get C:\image.nrg, which I presume is my C drive. Also under drive (with the drop down arrow) I get C:\[WIN98OS]

Now when I go to the cache tab like you mentioned, I get the following:

D:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1.STR\LOCALS~1\Temp\

Also under drive (with the drop down arrow) I get D:\[WIN2000OS].

Also to note that my 30GB HDD is partitioned as follows:

C: Running Win 98SE OS
D: Running Win 2000 Pro
E: Is a extended logical partition for my IT Course
A: Is obviously the floppy drive
F: Is my 250MB Zip drive
G: Is my Pioneer DVD 106
H: Is my Liteon 48246S burner
I: This is my external USB drive (20GB) and this is the drive that Nero
keeps writing the image file to, instead of my HDD like it should.

But under your instructions, the I or extermal USB drive is not selected.

Why not disconnect your USB drive during burning?

It should be hot swappable so you don't have to worry about rebooting right?
