Can Samsung SM-352b playback cd's/dvd's at 1x speed

I was wondering if the Samsung SM-352b was able to playback cd's and dvd's at single or double speed to reduce noise.
I have a one year old SM-332 with latest firmware and it won't play any audio cd's below 8x or dvd's at low speed. Nero infotool reports minumum speed of 8x for cd, it just won't take any slower, tried it with cd speed, no result. This annoying problem makes the drive too noisy to enjoy cd's, divx, dvd, without headphones.
Has samsung solved this issue of noisyness or can the newer drives handle single speed playback?
