I think most of them are made by CMC. The CMC-made Philips CD-R's are very poor quality and the reports I saw here on this board showed a very high error rate. I wouldnt buy them.

BTW doesnt Ritek or Moser Baer India also make Philips CD-Rs?

Sometimes Prodisc, don't pay more than $.10/disc for them.

I have some of the CMC Philips discs, and they have the lowest writing quality of any CD-R I've used since the 16x Imations. :(

Phillips does seem to frequently scrape the bottom of the barrel, don't they?

Yes, Philips does seem to do that. :(

I had some Phillips 40x (CMC) CD-R media a while ago back when I had my LTR-48125W, they worked well even at 48x. That was before I ever did C1/C2 tests though...

I have used some 40x Philips CMC. It isn't nearly as bad as the 48x Philips, but it will only work at 24x (Smart-Burn limit) in my 52327Ss and 32x (Smart-Burn limit again) in my 48125W.

Here in Europe modern Philips disc's can be made by:
Primedisc (Ritek +Philips)(made in germany)
Ritek (taiwan)
CMC
Nanya
In the past( up to the 16x times ) however Philips used brands as
TY /Mitsui for there profesional range.

Hi guys,
I have used Philips 48X media made by Nanya Plastics Corp. and should say that they worked fine with my LG 8240B and my brother's LG 8520B.Had good quality, but the discs were a little costly than Prodisc and Moser Baer India Ltd.
See ya guys later,

Hey! I liked the Imation 16X CD-R's! Never had a problem with them.

Maybe yours were better than mine. :D Mine have always been readable, but the writing quality wasn't very good compared to other CMC discs, like the 32x Imations.

In 2000, I bought a 50 pack of 16x 74min Memorex that were made by CMC for CD copies, and those CD's still play fine, even after abusing them in the car (scruffs, fingerprints). I only had a 12X Sony burner at the time so I never knew how they worked at 16x.

...but Primedisc's "made in Germany" excelent Philips CDRs are hard to find in quantities ,usually only found "made in China" by Ritek ....

Very intresting considering I got it to go at 48x SmartBurn limit in my LTR-48125W. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good batch, or inconsistency in the drives. I'm thinking I just got a lucky batch.

That's probably what happened; the Philips 40x discs I used were probably some of the first 40x discs out there. Here is the ATIP information; interestingly, the ATIP is exactly the same for my old 16x Imation discs.

Drive Type = CD-RW
Disc Type = CDR
Material = Phthalocyanine
Lead In = 97:26:66
Lead Out = 79:59:74
Nominal Capacity = 702.83MB
Manufacturer Maybe = CMC(99min)
Smart-Burn Speed Limit = 32X(Write)

Aie! What is that?! I thought it was bad enough that SmartBurn attached a brand to a manufacturer ( i.e. "CMC, Imation" see http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=13210 ), now they are labeling 80 minute CD's as 99 minute? That'll confuse novice users even more! Now I really have doubts about how SmartBurn displays the manufacturer.

I know, I've been wondering why that was happening. Those definitely are 80-minute discs, not 99-minute discs.

I got my Phillips 40x disks when Best Buy had a sale for either Free after rebates or $10 after rebates, can't remember the date, but I think around August or so. CMC tends to have very "flakey" quality.

Oh, OK. The ones I used were probably more than 1 year old.
