Maxell's latest batch of CDR-Pro 48x are TY media. I also got a hold of the regular CDR 48x media, which are Ritek. I was able to burn at 52x with the 48x Ritek media on my Liteon 52x32x52 burner. Have not tried the CDR-Pro because the Fuji 48x, which are also TY, slow down and end up burning at 40x. Both media are good quality.

The Ritek Phthalo-type dye is a type that is loved by some burners and compatable with most. It exceeds TY burn quality on some drives at high speeds, and is slightly less likely to "overburn" (which causes a drive to slow the burn speed near the end). The CMC Phthalo does not share these qualities, and is less likely to burn well at high speed.

Maxell CDR-Pro has always been TY. Have you updated your 7S to the latest firmware?(QS0B) You should not see much slowdown on TY now, but this varies from drive to drive. You could also try QS0C.

I have tried QSOC. Not sure if it will matter if I downgrade to QSOB.
I always got burns at 52x with the Liteon 52x24x52 with the Fuji TY media. But, I get quality burns with the Liteon 52x32x52 drive. It's all I can ask with the burner. Once the 32x CD-RW media comes out, I won't be worried about the 40x burns I get with Fuji media.

On my LTR-52327Ss, Fuji (TY) 40x media burns at full 52x speed; I haven't burned any 48x Fuji media on the recent firmware versions as I've naturally been using my older discs first.

Fuji 40x and 48x are the same media.

Yes, I do like Riteks for their overburn ability. I can crank about 82 minutes error-free on a Ritek disc. Haven't tested overburning this far with a CMC disc yet.

Um, I was referring to "overburning" in relation to SmartBurn OPC and overheating the dye. sorry for not being clear.
