samsung combo sm-352b on asus P4C800-E delux

I have a samsung cdrw/dvd sm-352b and it is set on a Asus P4c800-e delux Mobo.

The drive does not perform what so ever. Certain pressed cd it cant read. When i boot Windows XP with a disk in the drive the OS seems to hang after logon but the moment I eject the cd the OS loads fine.

I am currently downloading the latest flash util and the rom from Samsung to see if there is an improvement. I also have the latest Mobo bios installed.

The drive works like a deamon in my other pc so i think its a conflict between mobo and drive.

Thanks in advance

Just wondering, but are you in South Africa? Reason I ask is because your name ends with "ZA" which is the country code for South Africa.

Guys, what about Bootup option form CD drives? If its enabled try disabling it. My Samsung SC152n CD Rom had the same issue with Asus P4BMx but if I remember correctly, disabling the boot up option fixed it.

Btw, if the drives are under warranty, get it replaced.

Good Luck.

Hi Guys, sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope you can fix it with dissabling "Boot from IDE Device" in Bios.

I dont have an answer for you problem but since you own the same drive as I do I would Like to ask you a question before I make a post about it.

Do any of you know the read and write offset for this drive. EAC has a data base but it is not included and I dont own any of the correct versions of the CDs used to detect the read offset. If you are familiar with Exact Audio Copy you will know what I speaking of. If not check out EAC it is the best software for making backups of your favorate music CDs, as it copys them bit for bit, and if you know the read and write offset of your drive you can make an exact duplicate CD.

i'm now thinking that it must be the MOBO.
I went off and sold the samsung to someone, got a new a-open drive from another supplier. The new drive was fine for 2 weeks but is now starting the same troubles. The suppliers of Asus here are a bit of a mission for me to get to so i have not been back to them. The Samsung drive works great at the guy I sold it to.
