You will probably hate me. Still wondering about getting Lite-On's faster combo drive or maybe I'll wait until the price drops Lite-On's or Plextor's 8x DVD Burner and I'll get on of those. How long after Lite-On announces Coming Soon, then the drive shows up in the stores? I hope Lit-On will have a black one. Hehe. :D

I don't know when it will come out, but I think that the LTR-52327S was "coming soon" for at least a month or two before it was finally released.

Well, I'm curious as to why it is now called "SOHC" instead of "LTC". I really hope that it's not for Sony Optical Hardware Combo.

Hmm, never thought of that. It very well could be though. Lite-On has used Sony drives in the past, so if they use them again, I wouldn't be too surprised.

That is a great job. Couldn't even tell it was spray painted. Lite-On has a 48x24x48x16x in black. I have a Dell and Dell sells that model.

I'm thinking that it's not really that they'd use Sony hardware, just that Sony is taking over Lite-ON :( Sony has the potential to bring both great, and terrible things to Lite-ON...

I'm not quite sure I follow. Sony is taking over Lite-On? As in, Lite-On will eventually be Sony, and we will only see Sony drives, not Lite-On drives?

I guess Sony bought Lite-On?

No, its a joint venture. Just like Lite-On and JVC with their DVD-ROM drives.

Based on this thread, it seems that the 52327S is already using Sony hardware.

Why is this a bad thing? After all, only the PUH is made by Sony, not the entire drive. Besides, the 52327S has better writing quality than almost any other drive out there!

That's really a matter of opinion, Maybe better writing quality than almost any other LITE-ON CD-RW drive out there, but there are certiantly drives that write better than the LTR-52327S. Ex: Plextor Premium (from own expirience) and LDW-401S (according to rex)

I didn't say is was better than all other drives, just better than almost all other drives. Notice I specifically didn't mention Plextor in my previous post.

so what? that's no reason for aviationwiz not to pimp Plextor.

aviationwiz: your advocation of Plextor is really getting old and boring.
get over it.

Didn't anyone read this part either?

LDW-401S

Yes, I read that part, too. I guess I should have mentioned that in my previous post.

No you tell me! I was really surprised to see "SONY.CORPORATION" in the EEPROM from my 7S and was wondering how did it get there. This is a replacement drive which I got last week from the vendor when I returned the previous one. This drive has Nov 2003 as the Manufacturing month and QS0C (Oct 16, 2003) as firmware revision.

Wonder what will happen to Liteon in the long run...

Did you get the 48x24x48x16? Or did you find a 52x32x52x16x. I wonder when the 52x32x52x16x will be at NewEgg.Com?

For the record, you can't pin me saying the LDW-401s is better then the LiteON 52327S since I have yet to test a LiteON 52327S. All I can say is that the LDW-401s is a better drive then the LiteON 48125W in 99.9% of all cases, and a better drive then the Plextor Premium roughly 75% of the time (maybe a little more?). Depending of course on firmware, media, and speed burned at (the Plextor Premium out performs the LDW-401s at 8x burning almost 100% of the time).

Actually I was talking about my LiteON 52327S, which has the signature "SONY.CORPORATION" in it's EEPROM. I don't remember whether the older 7S which I returned to the vendor had it or not.

Btw, Mark1283, congrats on your painting. It looks exactly like the black bezels which came with my 52327S. For all of you who buy 411s, the black bezel is not included in the retail box. I asked to exchange the beige one with vendor but he gave me one for free anyways.

"No colors any more I want them to turn black" - Stones.
