Any experience with TruSilver CDs & Audio CDs?

I've recently started burning more CDs - both on my pc and my audio system, so I bought some TruSilver CD-Rs and TruSilver Audio CD-Rs in bulk - and had a funny experience.

After burning and Audio CD-R, I put a clear Memorex label on it. After labeling, I noticed a small piece of dirt under the label, so I attempted to lift the label off. Not only did the label lift, the silver recordable surface lifted right off the CD, leaving only the clear plastic disc!!

Now admittedly, I've never tried lifting a label off a CD before, so I'm not sure if the same thing would happen with a branded disc or not - but this now has me thinking "Are these TruSilver unbranded CD's any good, or are the junk?"

Has anyone had any experience with these, pro or con, that they could share with me?

Thanks. . . .Stu

Welcome to CDRLabs, StuSegal! :D

Lifting the label off of a CD probably will damage the CD, whether the CD is good or poor quality, unless the adhesive is very weak. I haven't actually used these CD-Rs, so I can't tell you for sure whether they are good are not.

I have seen extreme coated disc's like Emtec Ceram Guards and seeing what these disc's could handle I would say it would survive a removed label. (It survived removing the complete Ceram upper layer.
However these disc's are known for there extreme toplayers which can handle insane abuse. And that's what your paying for.
I also have seen good disc's which cannot handle a removed top layer.
So it doesn't say anything about quality. But just to let you know there is extreme media out there that can handle these conditions however the question remains if you want to pay up to 4 times as much as for good normal cd-r media.

Ah, thanks for the info, RJW! That's certainly interesting that there is media out there that can handle that much stress; I didn't know that such a thing existed. :D
