and so far I am able to Overburn them to 99 minutes using Nero 6. Next I will actually try 99 minutes of actual data to see how true this is

Let me guess: you are using an LTR-48246S or similar with the older firmware that doesn't handle the overburning test properly. With this firmware the drive will claim you can overburn to any capacity you want. The truth, of course, is different. Let me assure you that if you have 80-minute discs (which I assume you do), you can not overburn to 99 minutes. You may get to 82-83 minutes if you are lucky.

You can get updated firmware here:

http://www.liteonit.com.tw/ODD/english/ ... rmware.htm

Look for the firmwares that say "Strengthen the stability of the "OVERBURN" function". That's the code phrase for "fixed overburn test bug."

Interesting. So Samsung suffers from the same problem. I don't know of a fix for the Samsung drives. Sorry. :(

Samsung 348B is very bad at overburning. This is why I ran out and bought a Liteon 52327S (Now that's another sad story).

Can anyone say what's the maximum average capacity one can overburn with a 80Min standard disk?

Btw, Samsung has come up with many consecutive firmware updates and with the latest one the 348B is well off.

Cheers.
