I just recently got a MSI CR52-M internal ATAPI CD-ReWriter. The problem is the drive is not be detected by my pc even though it's all connected. Can I please get some help on this matter?

Make sure the pin is set correctly to master or slave based on how you have connected it to your IDE controller.

Make sure your BIOS is set to auto-detect the drive. If that doesn't help, try another IDE cable.

How do I check that?

It is different for each motherboard; the general idea is to go into the BIOS setup and look for the IDE channel settings. Make sure that each device is set to "auto". Most likely, your motherboard is already set up this way, but it is good to check.

Done. It's just the pc does not detect the drive. Anyone know how to install the drivers?

Forgot to mention this before but the drive is an ATAPI. I don't know if that will help.

Drivers aren't the issue here. If the BIOS can't see the drive, either the IDE cable, the drive, or the motherboard is defective. I'd recommend trying another IDE cable. If that doesn't help, your drive is probably defective.

They said I need the file named "MSC0001"

Hmm, I'm not sure what that file is. If your BIOS isn't detecting it, though, you don't need it yet.

Have you tried another IDE cable?

That's related to the old MSCDEX.EXE DOS/Windows95/98/ME CD-ROM driver support. What OS are you using?

Yep.

If the IDE cable didn't help and the jumpers are set properly, I'd suggest that you RMA the drive.

Go into your bios and see if it detects the drive.

RMA basically means to have the drive replaced through its warranty. RMA stands for "Return Merchandise Authorization".

When the computer starts up, the BIOS usually lists all of the drives which it has detected. Vsekh was asking if the BIOS lists your drive when it starts up.

Did you connect this burner with another drive on the same cable?

If yes, make sure you have connected the pin in the back of both drives appropriately to slave or master since your motherboard does not show it on bootup.

Master - CD Burner
Slave - 250MB Zip Drive

Try disconnecting the Zip drive and bootup your system to see if it sees the burner.

It was the zip drive that caused all of this. Thanx guys for helping me.

I'm glad that the drive is working now!

I had this problem with my internal 250 MB zip drive. It runs in PIO mode. So, I was not able to connect any CD drives or hard drives to it. I ended up putting it away and started using rewritable CDs instead to store data.

Glad you are able to use your MSI burner. :)
