Staples had this brand on sale the past week. The package says made in United Kingdom. Does anyone know anything about them? I burned several at various speeds and they seem to be OK, also used data as well as music and VCD. Price was right, Free after rebate... Thanks

Welcome to CDRLabs!

You can find out who made these discs using Lite-On's Smart-Burn utility. It will work even if your drive isn't made by Lite-On.

You're welcome. I'll be interested to hear which company made those discs.

Nero info tool says CMC Magnetics.

I just got the 100pk from stapes ($25-$20rebate), I have to say the quality sucks. When opening the spindle, one disc stuck to the bottom and the coating pealed off a section. Another disc had a wavy section of the coating (I junked it). AND those were just the first couple that I've looked at so far. I'm not looking forward to the rest of this spindle. Maybe I just got a bad batch, but I don't think I'll ever buy these again.

From what I read, iMix is part of the Imation brand, and we all know Imation are (in)famous for using CMC discs. Although, with their recent investments in Moser Baer, maybe we'll start to see some iMix discs made by MBI.

True, although in my experience, Imation uses better CMCs than other brands do. From the information above, these iMix discs are some of the worst CMCs I've ever heard of.

That's true, and yes, it appears that way so far. Don't get me wrong, I still like CMC. :) I never had problems with KHypermedia/CMC discs either, when others reported shoddy results with them.

Imation supposed to have better CMC disc's. I don't think so.
Best CMC disc's I encountered were the A grade Optimums REX send me.
Also the Nashua black CMC disc's were quite okay for CMC. But then again black media has a different quality policy.
All Imation CMC I have seen peformed so far as a average CMC disc.
No matter if it states Verbatim Datalife, Imation or Sunstar (cheap B-brand) they all have the same variance in quality from quite bad to okay and they all age way to fast.

Yeah, it's too bad that after those 32x I sent you, the 40x and 48x that came out really SUCKED! :(

The only thing that I really like about CMC is their black discs. I think they are probably the safest manufacturer of black bottomed CD-Rs... or at least the safest that *I'VE* come accross... but I've only tried CMC, Prodisc, and Ritek..... and don't get me started on Ritek's black discs!
