I see this drive in stores around here now but I can't seem to find any reviews for it. Is there anything really new about this drive over the 4480B (48x24x48x16x) other than very slightly quicker CD read and write times?
A friend of mine has the 4480B and I might like to get a 4520B since my cheap DVD-R media reads quite well in that drive. Also, 24x CD-RW writing would be nice to have for my portable player.

Hi!
Believe me, there is no much difference in time between the 4480 and 4520 when reading and writing media
But LG-drives are good drives, you canĀ“t make a mistake when buying one of this two drives

I went out and bought the drive today and I'm a little disappointed with its DVD-R reading capabilities...
For some DVD-R discs it'll read most of the disc just fine but will hang when I tell it to read a certain file, usually at the edge of the disc. If I take the same disc over to my friend's 4480B drive it works just fine. I can post Nero CDSpeed graphs if anyone likes. BTW, this drive doesn't really have any problems reading or writing other media (CD-R, DVD-RW, etc.)
Could this be a firmware issue?
The 4480B has V1.02 while my new 4520B has V1.00 firmware only. Could a new firmware revision, if released, fix this (assuming of course they implement the fix).

Thanks for the link, I tried the firmware that was posted on the first message on that page but it didn't seem to help much.
Here's a Nero CDSpeed test of a "problematic" DVD-R disc on the 4520B (using the firmware on the page) and on my DVD recorder:
