I have offically asked Samsung about their burner.

Finally they certified that they have FIXED the burn speed for some discs.
(I think most !)

But no problem in other burner.
I have also tested burn in MAX speed in other burner.

What the heck !

Which Samsung drive is it? I'm guessing its one of their "F" series.

It's the SM-348B. Not burning at the rated disc speed is a common problem (an extremely common problem for the SM-348B, and SM-352B). The solution is to find and use media that works or else deal with the slightly slower speed.

Dhc014 is right. We all run into similar problems with various brands of burners not being happy with various brands of discs.

I must say that is quite a polite customer service reply. I've never seen such a heartfelt response. The poor guy probably couldn't sleep last night from fretting over hacker's problem... :)

You may not be happy that they limited the drive to 40x for that media (which they did to ensure burn quality), but you shouldn't be unhappy about their response to you.

One additional tidbit: There used to be far worse problems with this drive than only being able to burn at 40x instead of 48x. Take a look here.

Yeah, there's two versions of the CMC discs with ATIP 97:26:66. One has a nominal capacity of 79:59:71 (writes at 48x) and the other 79:59:73 (writes at 40x).

Have you tried the firmware update on Samsung's Korean website? I've found that the COM and DOM versions can differ a little.

updated !

Yes, mine is SM-348B.

I have updated to latest firmware T512 !
And I have also tried all Code ext. - COM / LEG / DOM / EXP.....
The problem is remain the same !

I have also tested new SM-352B (52X),
same Problem !

what a Stupid Samsung !

I am not angry with it.
Just feel disappointment.

BTW, I have patched it to RPC1 !
Region FREE !

I used to be disappointed with the 348B until I realized, a cd properly burned in 40X is much better than a 48X Coaster. I have had my Liteon 52327S fail writing on the same speed detected as safe by Smart Burn.

Take it easy, If you only had purchased this model when it was released intially, you would've thrown it out of the window by now. ;)

Really? What firmware version do you have, and what discs are you using? I've only had 1 burn failure on a 52327S (I own two), and that failure was caused by the burning software, not by the drive.

I've got the Samsung 52x24x52x16 combo drive. I got a couple of full 52x burns using Memory 52x media by Prodisc if I got lucky. All other media that Nero would let me select 52x, the burn would slow down a lot. I gave up on this burner awhile back.

Well, they are Imation and Philips based CDs. Now, somone might argue they are of various quality and sort. But think about it, this is what an averrage joe who is concerned about brands would buy right? Also I have never had any issues with these media on my other Liteon, Samsung or LG drives. Btw, Firware was 0C.

Anyways, I returned the 7S for good. Waiting until faster DVD writers are released or the price of 708 / 811 to come down a little.

Your concern is appreciated.

I really am happy when I listened to my dealer here and went for a LG drive. He was offering me both at same price but suggested that I should get LG as Samsung drives had problems for their 48X and 52X drives.
He said that Samsung owners are literally crying!!

See ya guys later,

Yeah true, I'm yet to go wrong with LG. I bought the 348B without giving it much thought. Then again it was the only Combo available with higher writing speeds at that time.

Cheers.

lol...Lucky me...

I own a Samsung 352 that I DID buy when it came out. It went back for repairs the first week because I thought something was seriously wrong with it. I couldnt get a 32X burn yet alone faster and that was on MCC and TY disks. The replacement was the same way. I figured oh well becuase I bought it for the DVD-RAM read feature.I had 3 other burners installed already.A few firmwares later it finally got to where it burns most stuff decent speeds now.I get 48X alot. What I find VERY ODD about this drive is that it burns the memorex high speed cdrws that wont burn in anything worth a (insert lowest currency denomination here) just fine. I have quite a few of these discs and they work fine still. Friends gave me quite a few of them because they just refused to burn in their burners. The Samsung will burn my 32X Maxell disks at 48X whereas my litey does 32X.Just a few trade offs. I have been happy with mine anymore. It just took alot of firmware updates. The cheaper media usually works better in it than my other burners.Big name media(MCC TY) though it wont ever do 52X.

oh yeah the T807 firmware fixed the most problems but its not on their english web site.Do a search for it and give it a shot.Much better cd burning speeds than the T806 thats on their site(last time I checked anyway).

I hate using racial slurs, but I think the term "*****" is appropriate to Korean companies who refuse to make the best firmware available on their English sites.

We ***** saved their ***** from the Stalinists 50 years ago, and this is how the ungrateful ***** pay us back.

(Notice my use of "Stalinists" as opposed to the more vague "communists". Stalinists are evil, but not all communists are evil.)

WOW didnt hold any feelings back there :D Anyway yeah I agree that its bull that alot of the foreign web sites get the firmware that fixes all the problems that plagues everybody including the US which I would assume is a pretty major market. Plextor US took a while before it would release the same firmware that was availible on the foreign site. I talked to a Plex tech on the phone and told him I flashed to it and that it fixed a few problems but some were still there. He acted like I did something bad since it wasnt on their web page.Arrg.I checked the Samsung US site today and the new firmware STILL ISNT ON THE US SITE!What is up with that???I have had it installed for many months and they still havent bothered to post it here yet?Seems like they could care less about customer support in my eyes.

Korean companies always treat us like the ***** that they are though.

Compare the different versions of Ragnarok Online, for one thing.

I guess jj_frap is wrong. We are all aware that the prices of all the optical recorders have crashed down because of their intervention in the market and furious pumping of burners in the market.
Also service policies of each company could be different in different country.I have a LG GCE-8240B which came with firmware 1.07.The drive just went berserk and started burning coasters.I then contacted LG's Indian support site. They told me that it is not possible to flash the burner without opening it up and flashing the chip with external flasher.I just went ahead and flashed the firmware which I had downloaded from German support site of LG.The burner got well and is now okay with 1.08.
See ya guys later,

Yea, I had a samsung burner too... First I had to spend like 90.00 for it, cuz I was suppose to get a 50.00 rebate back, but they also screwed that up. Then it broke after using it a lil over a year... Save yourself the trouble DONT BUY ONE!
