LiteOn LTR-52327S vs Samsung SW-252B Questions ? - ANYONE ??

Hi all,

I am new to the forum & I have narrowed my purchasing choice between
the Samsung SW-252B & LiteOn LTR-52327S drives.
(LiteOn is only $5 more)

I am upgrading from an Old Yamaha SCSI

- the 32X rewrite of the LiteOn is not that important to me as I can't even
find 24X rewrite CDRW where I live - only 10X

Whats is important to me:
- Build Quality of Drive
- Data Writing Accuracy(minimal/no errors)
- Media Compatability
- Reliable drive
- Quiet drive is Preferrable
- Good support with drive flash updates in the future

From the reviews I have read:

Samsung Pros: Quiet, seems Well Made, 8MB Buffer
Samsung Cons: Must hold button for 5 seconds to enable 52X CDR reading, Lacks Audio leadin/out

LiteOn Pro: High media compatability, Full 52X CDR Reading
LiteOn Cons: Reports that Drive is Very "Noisy" when reading & writing,
Also read a review that CD Tray is "Flimsy" & the drive is NOT of high build quality

Q1: I am curious as to how much more noisy is the LiteOn compared to the Samsung drive ??

Q2: Is the LiteOn CD Tray Flimsy as was reviewed ??

Q3: Any suggestions as to which is the better drive to buy based on my criteria ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Regards,

David

All 52x readers and writers are "noisy". You won't find one that's truly quiet. Personally, I really didn't think either drive was exceptionally loud.. for a 52x writer that is.

Not any flimsier than the trays on other drives. I haven't heard of any 53327S owners having any problems in this regard.

I have several Lite-On's and they've been pretty good. I suspect that the Samsung should be pretty decent as well for most burning purposes.

I suspect either one will work for you. It'll really be a matter of personal preference as to what you want to buy.

These days there seems to be no really terrible CD burners, just some really good ones and some okay ones.

I would go with Liteon. Better media compatibility and write quality.

Exactly what I think. I have LTR-52327S drives in two of my computers, and both are great for speed, media compatibility, and writing quality! :D They are loud, but I think they're quieter than the old 52x CD-ROMs I used to use, and they're definitely quieter than the AOpen CRW-5224 which I had before the 52327Ss.
