Checking C1 and C2 errors on a CD-RW disc?

Can I use a CD-RW disc to check C1 and C2 errors with my Lite-On 52327s and get realistic results or would I only get some bad info when I use a CD-RW disc instead of a CD-R disc?

I thought of using such a disc and compare the results between the firmwares R52QS0C and R52QS0B and see if R52QS0C really is that much worse in quality than the R52QS0B firmware.

Yes, you can check CD-RW discs for C1 and C2 errors in the same way as you do for CD-Rs. However, the writing quality on CD-RWs is often much worse than it is for CD-Rs. I don't know why this is, but my experience has never contradicted it.

There are a lot of reasons why cd-rw's are peforming worse. If you know the technical aspects which cause disc errors. You will find that it's quite logical why cd-rw's are performing bad !
If a lot off people are really interested. I could post offcourse. But do a little search yourselves.

Unfortunately, it's a bit more complicated. The usual "change log" for LiteOn firmware is "match more media". This means that the burning strategy (power calibration etc.) is added or adapted for further media types. If you happen to use one of these, you can see a big difference. I you don't, you won't.

For an example of what a difference it makes, see this summary and these plots in the media compatibility thread. This is a NanYa CD-RW that was unuseable on an LTR 48246S with firmware SS0A and super with SS0B. I didn't notice much difference with CD-Rs, but have stayed with SS0B since because I do use CD-RWs.

I've since tried out SS0E (Strengthen the stability of the "OVERBURN" function). This version is the first one that allows the overburning test in CD-Speed to function properly. Again, I've seen no influence on the CD-R burns. The C1 rate on my CD-RWs (as tested by Kprobe) has increased somewhat, so I've gone back to SS0B.
