How do I increase the burning speed of my Sony CRX220E1?

My Sony is suppose to be able to burn at 52X, but the fastest I have been able to get it to burn is 40X?(using certified 49X media.)
Are there any firmware upgrades for the burner?
I was told that there is a way to update the sony with Liteon firmware, so that the light on the sony will change to red when burning (it stays green right now?????) Wouldn't Liteon firmware see that my machine is a Sony and reject the upgrade????
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
