Hi,

I've never seen these before:
Sony CDrs, certified for 48X.

Anyone has a clue as to who manufactures these?

Here is a picture:

Sony hasn't got a own factory in taiwan at least not that I know. Sony has a manufacureing facility in france and also has a partnership with KOCH/ KDG Mediatech AG(the parent company of Datarius Analyzers) for makeing media for Sony. (mostly DVD's )
Now according to my sources all taiwan media can be the following
A Benq/Acer/Daxon(We should make agreement how to name the media companny of these guys) which is all the same name for the same manufacturer.
B Lead Data (A) - This media is identified as Lead Data by the software

C Lead Data(B) - This media is identified as Sony and are specially made disc's for Sony by Lead Data. The quality controle for this media is also a bit better as for a average Lead Data disc. Still great variance in performance has been spotted. (From very good to very bad)

In the old days Sony made very few disc's themselves mostly for testing performances and used for there disc's on the market stuff made by TY and Mitsui. Great quality media.
Also there is Sony media with the multi atip user which is mostly identified as a DST code. This last one is rare and was produced at KDG Mediatech AG plant for SONY.

Now about KDG Mediatech AG /KOCH they have used the following stampers suppliers in the past.
4M
SONY DVD (For Sony DVD-/+R's)
multi user ATIP/FREE use ATIP Code (NOT DST but identified by most programs as DST ) - Note these can be from any source from 4M/DST/Plasmon/Princo or some other stamper manufacturer( Even MKM(mitsubishi) is possible since you don't need to have the rights to use this atip code !)- it will be very hard to track down who made them and it's not worth it.
Princo? (Some doubts if Princo has made it or that they had gotten stampers from Princo)

Now KDG/KOCH is actually foccusing the production on pressed media. Still they have the manufactureing technology and do manufacture for some parties.

I think you have already given us a name for that media. It's called BenQ, Acer, and Daxon right? So how about B.A.D. media? I think it's appropriate :D

All in favor say "aye"

Nay! I kinda like Benq/Acer media, atleast their own "Benq Gold" badged media. It burns well in my 52327S and the error rates are pretty low, ~1-1.5C1, 0C2.

If I'm right the factory is official listed as Daxon. Have to search it up.
However the name Daxon is hardly known and most people do know Acer/Benq media.

We get Sony media at work, Inkjet-Printable, and from the 16x media through to the 48x stuff we're getting now, with some exceptions which were made by Lead-Data with the Sony ATIP, they have all been TY. Goes without saying that these are excellent discs. Far better than the Imation CMC crap we got before I demanded we got better discs in......
