Dumb CD-R Question

People,

What's the difference between CD-R & CD-R Audio.

I go to Staples or CompUSA to purchase CD-R's to burn audio; & some salespeople tell you there's no difference between the two...whereas others tell you CD-R Audio is the only way to go (of course, no one can tell you exactly why.)

What's the scoop?

Thanks very much,

CD-R audio CDs are recommended to be used with audio CD burners available that connect to your stereo system.

You can use regular CD-R in your computer CD burner for audio or data.

I believe the RIAA gets a kick-back (licensing fee) for every music CD-R sold.

There seem to be some mixed feelings about this. (http://www.boycott-riaa.com/resources/pamphlet2.PDF)

Most standalone burners (those not connected to your computer) only accept AUDIO CD-R's (they are pre-set for audio). They're not better, they're just pre-set for it. They cost more because the RIAA can legally assume you're pirated so they get a kickback. If you have a computer burner just buy the Data-CD's, because you can make them into Audio CD's and they'll be just the same, just at a lesser price.
