I have used the utility and backed up the firmware. I emailed you a copy of the file.

Do I use mktflash or flashfix to install the original firmware if I need to go back after flashing using a Liteon firmware?

One more thing I noticed is the DVD Read speed maximum is 6x. My DVD ripping with dvdshrink starts at 3x speed and slow increases.

Anyone know why it is so slow?

Now I'm wondering if a upgrading to the latest Liteon firmware will even help here. I'm going to return this drive if it is really slow with dvd ripping and continue using my Liteon 166S.

I updated the firmware to NK06, but it was still slow at ripping dvds. I returned the Memorex and will stick with the Liteon 166S and 52327S as separate drives instead for now. I was afraid of getting the 52x32x52x16 Liteon Combo thinking that it was going to be slow at ripping dvds and that is exactly what happened.

The rip speed for recordable DVD discs is 6x, I think.

54x reading/writing firmwares will be available for the TDK OEM LTR-52327S and the SOHC-5232K drives.

The Liteon 166S dvdrom starts out ripping at 4x and quickly moves to 7x, then slow goes past 8x. The 52x32x52x16 combo drive starts at 3x and barely finishes upto 5x. Hopefully the newer combo drive will rip DVDs faster.

vsekh, the slow dvd ripping 52325216 combo drive you're referring to LiteOn SOHC-5232K or the Memorex drive?

thx.

The memorex is a rebadged Liteon SOHC-5232K.

Both yi_hsun and I seem to get pretty damn good ripping speed from the drive.....
See my tests at:

Not very experience with testing but with single layer, it is quite fast....
