I think this is an odd one . I noticed that CDrs burned on my LGE-8525b were not completely readable .Data cds just stopped or were unreadable and audio cds were distorted and skipping.
I looked at the underside and noticed that it looked like a multisession Disc with different start and end points.
Of course I returned it but I am still having the same problem First drive had Production date Nov 2003 Firmware 1.01 ,Second Drive December 2003 ,Firmware 1.02.
The Second drive is much better but I still get the odd Coaster. Am I burning to fast or is the drive picky on its Media ?

Thanks for any Help

What media are you using?

Also, firmware 1.03 is available. Update to this and see if it helps.
You can download it here:

Before updating your firmware, *READ THE INSTRUCTIONS* and I really mean that. I killed my LG 8525B when I tried to do a firmware upgrade recently and I had to RMA it. I don't know if I'll be updating the firmware on my drive to 1.03 or not because of it.

Dear monza,
Hi.Is the media 52X compatible?Because my brother use some old media rated at 24X and I have seen *SAME* pattern on the disc.Changing the media should help,I think.
You may try updating the firmware as a last resort as you may accidently kill your drive.

I would consider the Liteon 52327s. Reliable burner and great price.

Dear monza,
Hi.Did you try burning at different speeds?Like 16X or 24X?If you did and still the burner burns with the same pattern as above then the burner may be faulty.
The best burner out there is a Plextor PlexWriter Premium that comes at a premium.

*WRONG* and I say that *AS* an owner of the Plextor Premium drive. I'd take my LiteON LDW-411s over the Premium any day, and the LiteON DVD burner costs the same, if not less (usually less) in most areas.

I have come across several types of discs that the Plextor Premium does not burn as well as other burners. Even the LG 8525B beat it out a couple of times. The worst example I've come across of the premium's incompatability is with generic Lead Data 40x CD-Rs. It can burn them at all, and most of the time refuses to even start burning them, whereas every other burner I own burned them just fine, even *quite* well even at 40x. The Plextor could do almost as good as the other burners, but only when it slowed down to 8x to burn the discs.

The thing that makes the Plextor Premium good is Plextools... but all the cool features of Plextools are now unsupported (like Gigarecord). So this is not a drive I would personally recommend. I only ever hook it up for doing reviews, the rest of the time it sits outside of my case :o

Dear dolphinius_rex,
Hi.I didnt knew that Plextor no longer supports Plextools.I like the GigaRec recording feature in the Plextor.A friend of mine in other city has a Plextor Premium and the GigaRecorded CD can be opened in Asus DVD-ROM drive.I thought the write quality of the Premium beat most of the writers out there.
I guess other drive manufacturers are also working hard. :)

See ya later,

Plextor still makes and supports Plextools, but all the cool features like GigaRecord are not officially supported, they were dropped for official support fairly quickly actually.

Don't get me wrong, the Plextor Premium is not a bad drive, I just don't think it's better then a lot of other drives, or worth the price.

At least Q-Check is fairly good.

again, i don't uderstand: you mean no customer support (via email etc.)?

if so, that's pretty strange and idiotic on Plextor's part.
the GigaRec, SecuRec etc. were some of the Premium's selling points (what made it special). and Plextor prides itself on its support (basically that's what you pay for when you buy Plextor - that's why they're more expensive. or at least that's one rationalization).

if i understand you rightly, Q-Check isn't "supported" anymore either.

I've got Plextools Pro 2.10 installed and my Plextor Premium still has the tab for Gigarec. I'm assuming if we contacted Plextor support for questions on Gigarec, they will reply back saying that they do not support it anymore.
