Here's my experience, as a Plex Premium owner:

Not a bad drive, the "extra features" (i.e. Gigarecord, vari-record) are almost entirely useless. Some of plextools can be handy on occasion. On the whole I am somewhat unsatisfied with the burn quality of the drive, which produces great results on some media, but horrible results on others.

Overall opinion: Not worth the price, buy a DVD burner instead!

i love my premium, i burn to TY cd-rs only, so media is not an issue for me

its right up there with my yamaha crw-f1 and TY cd-rs

Great drive, GigaRec is fun to play around with, but with DVD prices so cheap now, not worth it, VariRec is also fun to play around with, but for audio, I just clock down to 32x or 24x anyways and it turns out perfectly. I have gotten it to work with a charm with CMC, MCC, & TY media. The MCC working best with the TY shortly behind. The thing is, the MCC really vary a lot in quality I have noticed. Best media to use with this drive? TY.

I believe this one is for personal (home use).

What about compatibility of the Gig. recorded CD?

Even if it is incompatible, this feature can still become a security feature.

What about SecureRec? Where are you folks using it?

I have no use for SecuRecord... and even if I did I wouldn't use it. There are easy ways around it

There's a way around all security, of course, I'd be intrested in it as is dodecahedron.

Well, I've never tried it, but according to some, badcopypro, and similar software will cut through it like a hot knife through butter.

Here are my experiences of the drive.
1.) It is very quiet even at speed.
2.) Secure record which locks the cd by password has on a few occasions given out an error message at the end of the burn.After inputting the password to view the CD I found a few files were not accessible at all even though the folders were visible. I haven't tried badcopy pro to crack the CD.
3.) Gigarecord seems a bit worthless but I remember burning (and extracting) a 783mb iso file straight from hard drive to a 700mb CD-R without any problems which I was quite amazed about. Although it seems to be viewable on the few drives I tried it on I suppose I would only use it for an emergency.
4.) It has had regular software and firmware upgrades so far.So it seems to be pretty well supported.
If I had to replace my premium I think I would probably go for a much cheaper drive like the Lite ON which seems to sell for about one fifth of the price I paid (even though it is damned noisy)

about iso's and gigarecord, your misled about oversized isos, even if there over 700mb they will still fit on regular cd-r

gigarecord has nothing to do with it, ive seen 800mb isos fit on regular 700mb cd-rs with room to spare

Well I always find out how little I know when someone points something out to me and I have to think about it.
Anyway the iso file was 783mb (if I select the file and read properties it shows 821,241856 bytes) Now if I extract the iso file to hard drive and select all the extracted files and select properties it shows 1.96 gigabyte
(2109190097 bytes) Which is presumably the size of the CD.
Surely I couldn't have got that much onto a 700mb CD.
now I'm baffled

go ahead pop in a 700mb cd-r and burn the iso with a burning program like nero, alcohol 120%, fireburner, clonecd, ez cd creator

betcha it'll fit

well I accept your experience although anytime I try and burn anything a little bit large with Nero it complains. But I know I probably have the settings wrong for overburning and also that Nero is an excellent program.

Does that work only with a Plextor Premium?Because I created a ISO file in Nero which was about 730 MB and Nero refused to burn it using my LG 52X burner.

no the same holds true for anything, i never use any features on my plextor premium, don't even have plextor tools loaded

my plextor premium sits in an external usb 2.0 case

I was wrong hox.I now remember trying to burn the ISO file using Roxio EZCD 5 and that was long time back.
I will try this today itself and let you all know.
