CDR media recommendations

I read that it is best to buy 'made in Japan' media vs Taiwan... But I went to Staples and everything they had was made in Taiwan (sony, maxell, tdk, memorex, ibm, hp) . I know manufacturers change the source of their media pretty often but can I get some updated recommendations for long lasting media?

You should look at some reviews of your drive and find out what media it writes best to. Taiyo Yuden is the "Made in Japan" manufacturer most looked for. You can usually find it from Fuji in their 50 and 100 spindles, but some are "Made in Taiwan" and are from CMC. Ritek (Ridata) discs burn nearly as well as the TY discs in my Lite-On 52327S, but your drive may vary.

To follow up on what Jim said, check the link below. Find your burner in the list of drives and check out which media burned at the rated speed of the disc or above.

Did Fuji change manufacturers? I thought Fuji was using Prodisc media in the "made in Taiwan" spindles.

I don't know. I passed on purchasing a spindle last week in favor of RitekG04's. I did a quick search while trying to decide and someone reported they got CMC's.

I was just in my local OfficeMax today and they still had some of the 30pack spindles of Fuji that were made in Japan.

They'll go on sale next Sunday with a $6 MIR.

My favorite was Verbatim from Ireland. The problem though is their AZO technology was the best but they disappeared from the shelves. Im guessing too many ppl rather just buy cheapo media. Now Verbatim uses a cheaper format.
