combo drives are disappointing...

hi there,

i think dvd with cdwriting ability are a bit disappointing... i had some cd-r burn using lite-on combo drive and some has problem, the old lite-on 48x cdwriter produce a perfect burning...

any thoughts? or is it just me experiencing?

Are you positive it isn't a media issue? Just because a disc burns well in a Lite-On CD-RW drive doesn't mean it will burn well in a Lite-On CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. :wink:

I don't have any problems with my LG combo drives. I will admit, the writing quality is slightly better with my straight LG burners as opposed to the combos, but the difference is negligable.

I too am happy with the 1 combo drive I have.I complained alot about my samsung when I first got it last year but now I like it(many firmwares later).It doesnt do many discs at 52X most at 48X but it burns to the memorex high speed cdrws no problem. Thats a feat none of my other burners can accomplish. I have a ton of them. Friends gave them to me after they couldnt burn them on their drives either.

Combo drives work good for my friends too.I dont have one to check out.

I have the Samsung SM348B. I think it's a great drive. Burns CDR/Ws very well and is a speedy CD writer/reader and fast DVD reader. It even reads DVD+R/W, I don't think was an advertised feature of the drive.
