Burner Software Help Needed

Ive search the site and couldnt find an answer to my question, so I hope one of you can help me. I have about a 4 or 5 year old Compaq Presario that came with Adaptec burner software. About 2 years ago the burner got broke, (2 year old with a bunch of pennies) and I bought a Sony CRX214A1. Since then I used the B's Recorder software for any burning I had to do. A month ago, I got a worm on my computer and had to do a restore. I was planning on re-installing the Sony software but seem to have misplaced my disk. I tried using the Adaptec software, but it wont recognize the Sony CDRW as a burner drive. Is there anyway I can remedy this situation? Ive tried to contact Sony about a replacement software cd, but as sure any of you that have dealt with Sonys customer service know, that got me no where. Can I get the adaptec to recognize the sony? Is there any downloadable software I can get for free, being a broke man, I can exactly afford to by anything at this time. So please, HELP! Thanks in advance, sorry for the long rambling post.

what version is your Adaptec/Roxio Easy CD Creator?

you need to go to roxio's website and update your software, then it might recognize the drive.

can you write again what drive you have?
i think you mistyped, i dont think there was such a model as CRX214A1.

there are free burning applications on the 'net.
what do you use the burning software for?
what kind of CDs do you burn?
data?
audio?
VCD?
iso or bin/cue images?

free: burnatonce
www.burnatonce.com
pretty darn good and free for personal use.

there are others.
http://www.deepburner.com - DeepBurner
http://cdr.dpaehl.de - Easy Burning
and more

yup, burninfool beat me to it :) his stuff is good too.

Yes, that was a typo, its CRX2A1. I have the 4.02 version of Adaptec. I burn mostly photo cd's, but I occasionally make back up copies of my music cd's for the car. Thanks for your help guys, Ill give those suggestions a try.

still a typo, no such drive.
CRX-200A1? CRX-210A1? CRX-220A1???

you have an old version of Easy CD Creator.
even if there is an update for it on Roxio's website, i doubt it would support your drive.

try some of the freeware stuff.
i can recommend burnatonce from experience.

you can buy an OEM version of some burning software (such as Easy CD Creator 6) for just a few bucks if you buy some hardware at some online stores.

you can also check out Roxio's website and see if you can get an upgrade to your version 4 (i kind of doubt it, since it's very old now).
