old Sony CRX-100E/CH IDE CD/RW flash question?

Right now I'm using this old drive that was in my closet temporarily for getting all the stuff installed on my Mom's new HD for her new computer. I figured since I have it connected, I might as well upgrade the firmware. It looks like the lastest is 1.0n, so I DLed that file from the firmware page and read the text file and I have a question on one of the options that must be in the DOS command line to run this firmware.

/AT >> PC/AT compatible
/98 >> PC-98xx

I don't know exactly what this means, but I need to use one of them in the command line. Which one?

Also, with one of these commands, I was going to use the following command line:

UPDCRX [firmwarefilename] [/AT or /98] /2 /M

The /2 /M is telling it the drive is on the secondary master. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you. 8)

would be helpful if you pasted here a copy of the instructions text file.

I would recommend downloading the 1.4f, 22-Apr-2003 CRX810E firmware from The Dangerous Brothers' page here: http://tdb.rpc1.org/#CRX810E, this contains a newer version of the UPDCRX (3.5) flash tool. Here are the commandline options:
Code: Select all
UPDCRX.EXE   Ver.3.5                      (c) Sony Corp.  1998

UPDCRX filename /AT [/P|/1|/2] [/M|/S]

You must set [filename]

[Option]
FileName     :Update filename
/AT   : PC/AT compatible
/P,/1 : Primary           /2    : 2ndary
/M    : Master            /S    : Slave
Default Option : /AT /2 /M

Put 100e_10n.bin and UPDCRX35.EXE onto a floppy disk, then boot into DOS and make sure that the floppy disk contains the flash tool and firmware, then type "UPDCRX35 100e_10n.bin /AT /2 /M"

Got it! So, I'm guessing from your reply the AT extension is the one I want? Just out of curiousity, what's the difference between the AT and 98 extensions?

PC-98XX is a very old type of computer: http://www.old-computers.com/museum/com ... st=1&c=403

Modern computers would be PC/AT

I tried that and it wouldn't flash and I can't remember what error message I got either. No big deal, I'm giving this old drive to someone soon anyway.

Hmmm, you could try the older version of the UPDCRX flash tool then if you want, otherwise don't mess with it.

I think I tried both versions and neither worked. One thing I was wondering is if the new firmware allows use of 80-minute CD-Rs and overburning. I remember I had trouble doing this before.
