External Slim drives - need one thats self powered

I am looking for a slim external drive (for a notebook) that is SELF POWERED thu USB 1.1. Writing capability would be nice, but DVD-ROM is the necessity.

Newegg has 2 self powered drives from Addonics, a normal DVD-ROM for 117 and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW for 170. Unfortunately the writer is USB 2.0.

Does anyone know of any other slim external DVD-ROM (or even DVD-ROM/CDR) drives that are self powered thu USB 1.1? Price has to be less than $200.

Thanks.

They'll work through USB 1.1, but not at anything more than 6x CD speeds.

I understand that usb 1.1 would indeed seriously bottleneck, I thought it acually limited to only 4x. Thats fine, so long as it works. The addonics CDR I listed only mentions USB 2.0 connectivity while the normal drive does mention both 2.0 and 1.1.

Thanks for the reply..

You could be right, USB 2.0 might supply more power than USB 1.1

usb2.0 is backw. compatible w. 1.1 - I doubt anyone's got 1.1 only anyways...

You mean bus powered drive? You might want to reconsider if it's going to be used for a notebook. The drive will drain notebook battery fast.
