Where'd My Speed Go ???

I bought a Sony CRX230E 52x32x52 burner and it's supposed to "burn a full CD in under 2 minutes".

Problem is, it takes closer to 10 minutes. I've used 3 different brands of 48x media and tried burning audio & MP3 files with DMA enabled, buffer status is about 95% during the burning and still, 9-10 minutes!

I used Nero 6 and a coupla others but still makes no difference. It says it's burning at 40x so I figured it shouldn't take more than 3-4 minutes. WTF???

I have a CRX100E as the secondary master & the CRX230 as the secondary slave (although I don't think that should matter??).

One other interesting note: I used Nero's CD Speed 2000 to test the drive and the transfer test did the entire 700mbs in 3 minutes! The other six tests wouldn't work for me?? Emailed 'em about this but so far, no reply ....

I really baffled! Any ideas out there? Thanks Much ! [-o<

Try seeing what the actual burn speed is throughout the burn...

Ok ... I'll give this a try! Does it matter what type of file I burn or should all types burn at around the same speed ?

Also, toggle [TurboBoost] to enable 52x for the drive since it is limited to 40x max normally.

This is done by holding the eject button for five seconds.

Ok ... Dumb question:
At which point during the operation do you push the eject button for SpeedBoost ?

Whenever the drive is idle before you burn. It's surely explained in your manual.

And sorry, it's called Turboboost, not SpeedBoost. Damn Linksys WiFi...

Sorry, bought bare drive - no manual came with it, so thanks for the info.

Tried above suggestion to read "true speed". It was writing at 40x and did copy 350mb in 1.75 minutes. I'm ok with that. Did a copy-to-copy after that and it took 17 minutes! ??? Oh well, I'm going to assume that my burner is working properly (as a result of the first test) and give this project a rest now .... :P

Just a footnote:

Switched my two burners (made the CRX230 the master) and burned the same files again. The time went from 9 minutes to 3 minutes!!! ????

Hey ... I'll take it ! :P
