Best firmware for Lite-On 52327S?

OK, I see Lite-On now has a QS0E58 firmware out. Any better than QS0B?

When QS0C came out, I tried it and the write quality was horrible, everyone here was saying QS0B was better, so I downgraded and it works perfectly. I'm asking instead of just trying it because at the moment I have exactly zero CD-Rs to try...

j/k

anyways, its sad to see a company producing new firmware that is worse then there previous one

Yeah, I saw that :)

I wouldn't mind having one, but I just got a new DVD burner (NEC 2500), and will be adding at least one more DVD burner soon, if not two (2510, PX-712?).

Still, I like having a fast, high-quality stand-alone CD-RW drive. It'll probably end up stuck in my 2nd PC, if the NEC can burn discs anywhere near as good as the old 1100 (ie, perfectly, even on crappy discs). So far, that 1100 was the best CD burner I've yet seen.

Need more DVD burners, not more CD burners :)

But it would be nice.......

No, no. Need DVD burners. But it is a Plex....argh!

major bump!

yeah, i know this is history (prehistory?) but i just got my Lite-On 52327S and wanted to ask anyone who still has/uses this drive, what's the best firmware for it? best i mean in terms of writing quality.
there's also R52QS0C, R52QS0E57, R52QS0E58 and R52QS0E5A on the website.

OK i know R52QS0C fixed the "Sub-Channel data" issue (if there ever was one) but worse writing quality than QS0B.
any reports on the writing quality with various flavors of QS0E ?

To clarify, these are QS0E/QS57, QS0E/QS58, and QS0E/QS5A. These flashers each carry two firmwares.

QS0x is the firmware for the original 52327S.
QS5x is the firmware for the 2nd hardware revision of the 52327S.

So if you have the original 52327S, then these three flashers will all contain the exact same firmware for your drive (QS0E).

If you have the 2nd hardware revision (you can tell by what your current firmware is), then you'll be comparing QS57 with QS58, QS5A, and whatever QS5x firmware you currently have in your drive.

OK didn't know that, i just copied the names from Lite-On's firmware page.

i think i have the orignal drive (1st revision), i think it has QS0B, i'll check as soon as i install it in the computer.

if so, what's better: QS0B or QS0E ?

Never used the drive myself, so I can't answer that. I had just wanted to clarify that there was only one QS0E. ;)

There can be only one! :D

thanks for the clarification.
hey, i thought you were a Lite-On kind of guy, no? (i don't frequent CD-Freaks very often, especially after my run-in with Kenny Shin).

just installed it, my LTR-52327S has QS09. so it's first revision. flashed to QS0B.

thanks for all of your input.

I use the latest version (0E) and don't sweat the small error count reporting differences too much. ;)

It certainly makes more readable Verbatim 32X Ultraspeed discs on my Iriver IMP350.

i was wondering:

here's what a CDSpeed Disc Quality scan looks like. see below.
look at the read-speed curve. is it supposed to look like that?
i don't remember ever seeing such a curve.
but then again i guess most people with a Lite-On CDRW scan with KProbe and not CDSpeed.

I've seen similar behaviour in a transfer rate graph when there was some activity on the other drive on the same IDE channel, e.g. when listening to a CD while doing the test.

I haven't tried it with a quality scan- I do use KProbe for that. 8)

Dodeca, try a CDSpeed transfer rate scan. The Disc Quality test does NOT show a readback scan, see below:

Oh, and use QS0B. Works fine for me, QS0E was better with 24X CDRW discs though.

how do you mean "does not allow a readback scan" ?
it does show it but it's weird!

what do you mean? that burn quality on 24x CDRWs was better with QS0E ?
how about other media ? CDR? 32x CDRW ?

I don't think that the DQ test is showing a readback scan... it seems to be some sort of OPC readback maybe? Look at those dips..

QS0E allowed me to burn on my 24X Verb CDRW discs. They did not burn at all in QS0B, but the CDR burning was waay better with 0B.No C2 spikes, which were prevalent even with old TY media on OE. Haven't tried any 32X CDRW discs as yet.

well, i burned 10x and 32x Verbatim CD-RWs no problem with QS0B.
haven't tried out 24x Verbatims.

burning wasn't the problem for my 32X Verbatims, but playback on a standalone unit certainly was until I snatched QS0E...it's too bad Lite-On didn't take the best of both firmwares and release an "F."

i gather you've burned Audio CDs.
i burned data.

here's a data backup i've made on a 32x Verbatim CD-RW disc.
i don't know if these are good or bad results.

BTW this is a virgin disc (first burn ever on it).

Give it a full format, and try a CDSPeed Create Data Disc test. Scan that and see..
