Mitsui Advanced Media America has just announced (to me) that they are bringing back the 1x CD-R. The disc itself will in fact be compatible from 1x to 12x recording speeds, and will be part of their 74min Gold Audio Mastering line of discs.

I thought some people might get a kick out of this, I know that *I* found it interesting!

Technology gone backward!?! speed-wise... :o :)

It could be more durable and made of higher quality though.

It's aimed at audio mastering houses, that only use professional equipment for CD burning, which is limited to 1x or 2x recording speeds only.

Everything old is new again. Well, I guess if bell bottoms could make a comeback, then we shouldn't be that surprised about 1x media making a return. They couldn't just burn the 48x media at 1x and call it a day?

Most 48x and 52x CD-Rs fail, or perform horribly at sub 8x speeds. Mainly because the dye is formulated for high speed writing, and not slow speed writing.

Well, if narrow ties ('60s) or extra wide ties ('70s) make a comeback, don't bother notifying me.

If those ties make a comeback, I won't let you know.

I was going right out to get some of these old/new discs, but as I got to my car, something came up. I remembered that it's the 21st of the month and that is when I'm scheduled to change the air in my tires.
