Hswahab, if you want someone who has actually used the LGE GCE-8525B on Red Hat 9 to report that the specific combination works in his or her actual experience, then you might be better off posting your question in a Linux forum. Most people around here use Windows.
As we said before, the GCE-8525B ought to work just fine. I did find one
posting on another forum where a user reports using the GCE-8525B with cdrecord on Red Hat 9 to successfully burn backups. (He did run into a problem when he updated from Red Hat 9 to Fedora Core 1, but that was a permissions problem and didn't have anything to do with the drive itself).
As far as software goes, look for cdrecord, cdrdao, burncd, X-CdRoast, mkisofs, etc. They are Linux command line and GUI tools for burning CDs.
