52x burning at 6x!

40+ gig free space
Win XP sp1

I have a pioneer DVDR as a primary and it's buring at 22x+ according to nero cd/dvd speed like it's suppose to BUT my lit-on sohr-5238s, set as slave, is buring at 6x, the copying time is slow also.
I have looked to check the DMA but there is not a resource tab on either drive BUT nero says that DMA is off on the light-on drive so how can I turn it on with no resource tab? I also upgraded the firmware...any suggestions as to why it's burning at 6x?
