the PX-230A not only breaks a new price barrier for Plextor, it also breaks with the traditional naming scheme of Plextor CD-R/W drives.

I'm guessing this came from their deal with GE.

As long as they're making affordable 52x CD-RW's for GE.. they might as well sell em to everyone.

Heh heh, its funny how cost effective CD-RWs from plextor cost just as much as a top of the line NEC DVD burner. This might have been news 2 years ago I guess... Now where to find 32x CD-RWs?

Good question. I think media manfacturers said funk it and aren't even bothering to sell em. I have never seen them in stores.

I've seen them at various online stores and I believe at Micro Center too.

Well most of my small local stores who sell verbatim media sell 32x CD-RW's and I'm talking about 700mb version here.
(made in Taiwan (CMC))

Howdy,
Can anyone tell me is this drive will be like an update to their Plextor Premium drive? If it is an upgrade or newer model I'll purchase it.
Cheers,
Scott

well, CD-R recording speed of 52x and CD-RW speed of 32x is the same as the Premium.
doesn't sound like this is an "upgrade" of the premium.
obviously, it is a newer model.

if anything, it sounds like an "upgrade" of the 5224A model.

I'm thinking it could be an upgrade because it says it extracts Audio at a MAX of 52x, where the Premium extracts Audio at a MAX of 40x...
Cheers

OK but the Premium has an 8 MB buffer if i'm not mistaken, this new drive has 2MB.
also the Premium has other features: Q-Check etc. that the new drive doesn't apprear to have.
