I need a new CDRW to replace a bad CDR in my older Micron Computer which has a 166 Mhz Pentium with 80MB RAM running Windows 95.

I am looking at either a Lite On SOHR 5238S or Optorite CW5201. Both are listed as compatible with Windows 95 but the manufacturer's hardware requirements are not that clear.

Can my computer run either of these drives?

I know that the drives won"t run at their rated max speeds in my computer, but 4-10X would be fine for my purposes.

Thank you in advance.

any CD-RW drive should work fine, even if slow.

Just make sure that what ever you buy, that it has buffer under run technology.

I for one do not miss the buffer under runs with EZ Coaster Creator & Win95 on a Cyrix P120+ chip.

Ian's review of the Optorite CW5201 confirms that it will write as slow as 4x. The Lite-On will also probably write as slow as 4x, but I can't confirm that - their web-site isn't as informative as it used to be.
