Problem with NORCENT RW481

I had been using the Norcent-RW481 CD writer for last one year with no problems. For last onw week, I have been getting a strange issue with this. When I try to read any cd (audio/video), it reads only for the first time after my PC is booted. The next time onwards, when I load the cd, it will not read the cd and I do not see the cd in the cd drive on My-Computer either. Now if I shutdown the PC and start again, then it is able to read the cd again. This problem is repeating randomly. Can anyone has any suggestion to resolve this. Appreciate your help!!

First, no need to double-post.

Second, I would check the IDE cable and IDE port that the burner is connected to. Perhaps the cable or port is faulty and it is giving you intermittent service.

I take it you are using Windows, yes? XP or another flavor?

I disconnected all the cables to the burner and reconnected them. But no change. And how can I be sure that IDE cable is working or not.

I am using windows XP pro.

A faulty IDE cable is usually discovered through process of elimination. Some signs of a faulty IDE cable include no data being transferred to drives connected by the cable and intermittent data being transferred.

Try connecting the burner to another IDE port.

What driver are you using with the drive? I'm guessing Windows XP automatically recognized the drive upon the first installation, but does it auto-recognize the drive each time you boot up?

I think so. It does recognise everytime the pc is booted. I never select driver when reboot the pc.
