need some advice.

i'm new to this, don't know if i'm scanning wrong or what.

my first CD scan ever:
TDK brand 24x 650MB CD, Taiyo Yuden.

Manufacturer : Taiyo Yuden

burned at 20x on my Plextor PX-W4012A fw 1.06

is this a horrid disc or what? or am i doing something wrong?
this is TY so i expected good results, not an average of 54 c1 errors!

bad burn? bad media? bas scanning method? bad drive for scanning CDs?

Usable, though not too well.

here's another scan:
Sony 24x 700MB CD, made by TY same ATIP code as the TDK in previous post, burned at 20x.

either the media is crappy, or my drive doesn't like this TY, or maybe CD scanning with the BenQ is problematic or just works differently than Lite-On Kprobe scanning.
i wish i had my Lite-On 52327S here

@Harrier - this is for you.
i have in fact used one of the Verbatim DataLife Pastel CDRs, had the sysadmins at the uni burn some stuff for me.

note - even though it's a 48x disc, it's the same ATIP code as those older TYs in the previous posts:

Weird.. my older HP 24X 700MB TY media is excellent. ~0.4C1 avg or so.

Recorded on 22 Oct. 2003, jewel case.
Drive was the 52327S, QS0B FW IIRC.

Maybe CDSpeed reports a slightly higher error rate? Have you tried a CDSpeed readback scan?

Also, rdgrimes had explained the TY ATIPs, 972401 is the 40X max media, 972402 is the 48X Max, and 972403 is the 52X max stuff.

Yeah, that smells wierd.. Maybe The guys at Verbatim repacked the old stuff to sell it as higher standart (48X) CD-R?

Anyway, what was your deal on the Pastels (pre bulk)?

So, just got my new 100-disc pack of Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs in today (#1160 from Rima.com) and it gives me this exact code (similar to above) in the Disc Info section of Nero CD-DVD Speed:

GG is for teh DVDRs. Is the hub frosted or clear?The frosted hub is the clearest indication, but hey, these discs are from RIMA, and they are trusted resellers. I would say these are definitely real, but just check the hub for frostiness to be sure.

Yep, most of the hub (outside part of it) is frosty and the very inner part is almost clear (or a lot less frosty). Looks like I have the good ones! Thanks Bhairav!
