Maxell CDR 50-Spindle 48X quality?

I came across three spindles of Maxell CDR all with the same UPC/made in Taiwan, however the packaging of all three are different:

1) Black base with PN: 017825-01/SH
2) Grey base with PN: 017825-01/RT
3) Grey base with PN: 017825-01/00

How does one tell which is which? I searched DVDHelp but no specific details....or does it matter? This is the first time using Maxell CDR, just want to be sure before opening the spindle.

Thanks.

Take a look at this thread. It is very informative and probably holds the answer to your question.

I would be willing to bet that the black base spindle you have contains CMC discs and the gray base spindle contains Ritek CD's.

I've used the Grey ones, Ritek. Excellent in Lite-On and LG drives, suck in Samsung CDRWs..

Thanks TheWizard,Bhairav for the links & feedback.

I finally found a forum where they reviewed Maxell/Ritek's CDRs (some batches were quite good but at times some batches weren't that good!) and decided to return the Maxells and just stay put with my regular/usual Sony CDRs

Regards.
