what speed does your CD-R/W drive burn Verbatim 10x CDRWs ?

a short while ago i switched my trusty old Plextor PX-W4012A (still going strong) for a Lite-On LTR-52327S (QS0B).

to my surprise, it burns my Verbatim High-Speed (4x-10x) CDRWs at 10x only. the Plextor had no trouble burning them at 12x.

any other drives out there that can do it at 12x ?

(the question is strictly out of curiosity, i now have 24x and 32x CD-RW by Verbatim, which of course the Plextor can't handle. but still...)

interesting question. Sometime back I was wondering the same thing with my CDRW drives and Ricoh High Speed CDRW discs.

My old TDK 4800D (not liteon oem) writes to me Ricoh discs at 12x, but 52327S, 5238S and LG 4120B can only write to them @ 10x.

granted the difference in speed is not that great, but since the media is well capable of 12x write speed, why do the drive manufacturers have to set the limit at 10x?

I can write to the Verbatim CD-RW's at 12X,no problem.

BTW,I have a Samsung (CMC Magnetics) CD-RW 650 MB,marked for 4X-10X use,but the writer at my friends place writes the same CD-RW at 16X.The burner is LG 8527B with latest firmware. All the other burners burn the same disc at 10X.

Howz that?
