Hello,
I have a Samsung SW-252B CD-R/RW drive firmware R701. Its tray keeps on opening every once in a while. Someone told me it was a magnet problem. Do you have any suggestions?
What causes that?
If yes, how can I repair that one my own?
Thank you.

do you have the latest firmware of the drive? if not upgrade it.

The drive did not have any problem for at least 6 months; I am almost sure that it is not a firmware issue. It is most probably a mechanical issue.

i agree.
i recommend you try updating the firmware (if there is a firmware to udate to).
barring that, i would say it's a mechanical or electrical issue requiring service.

I did update the firmware and still have the same problem.

Do you have any idea what could be causing that? I wouldn't send a CD-RW drive to service; I'd prefer fixing it myself, for the pleasure of it :D

the only thing i can think of is a bad electrical contact in the Eject button.
other than that it could only be something deep inside the electronics, not something that could be fixed at home by a hobbyist.

but hey, i'm only guessing here.

Before service check the drive in another "clean" PC - your computer could be infected...

I would say it´s normal with Samsung-drives ;)

A year ago I work at a institute with over 20 PC´s and some Samsung-drives show the same prob, other drives not
