Anyone else out there still burn audio cd's? Just curious, as my
LiteOn 52327 and Plextor Premium are getting up there age wise
and still see a great deal of use. I've read what reviews are available
for current cd only burners and for the cd burning capabilities of dvd
burners, but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience
to share with any current burner. What would you recommend based
on your use of a drive? I use only TY media. Doesn't seem anyone
talks much about cd burning anymore, I was hoping to see if I could
get a discussion going.

I would say to just keep it going until it dies and then get a DVD+RW.
The DVD+RWs are only $30 nowadays.
That kind of keeps CD+RWs off the market.

I think those are still probably 2 of the best burners you could have, unfortunately. Like Slim said, there's very little market for cd-only burners right now, even though DVD burners aren't quite as good at burning CDs as a good CD burner is...

I'm actually trying to increase the life of the drives by
finding something else to take the load off of them. I'm
especially interested in finding something that can scan
cd's as well as these drives so I can use them only to
burn. The problem of course is could I resist double
checking the scans of the new drive with the other two!

I've also got the same Lite-On still! Workhorse, that one...it will be a sad burial day when it hits the bucket.

I'm using my Benq DW1640, and I still fire up my Yamaha CRW-F1.

Seems like there has been some recent previous discussion on this. Have you tried searching the CDRLabs forums?

I remember lusting after that Yamaha drive, never did get one tho. Glad to
see its still working o.k. for you.
There was a nice link in the forum to an article in some German magazine
that ranked cd (and some dvd) burners on their cd ripping ability, but it did not include any discusssion, and some of the rankings seemed odd to me. I'm really interested in what people are using to scan their cd's these
days, what works well for them, even if its a dvd burner. I trust other forum members to be using the good stuff.
Thanks for the link to New Egg, but i already spend so much time there I should make it my home page. And I don't trust the New Egg user reviews as much as forum member recommendations, although they can be useful too.

Have been using an ACER 56X drive for several years without any issues. Installed a Sony CD-RW/DVD to be able to play DVD and it worked fine with the ACER on the same channel. Current setup has the Sony and their DRU820A on the bus and all is good still. Personal choice for drives over the past 5 years-Sony. The Acer and Lite-On drives hold up very well and I have used them for other people's machines without difficulty.
Software is more problematical so it seems. At least in my eperience.
